Block Chord Technique #2:

The 2-Hand Open-Voiced Sound

This is a big-sounding technique that is achieved by playing octaves in the right hand filled in with an open 5th (or 4th), while the left hand plays a 4 or 5 note chord at exactly the same time.

The right hand plays the melody in the first or second octave above middle C, with a harmonizing 5th or 4th between the two octave notes. This gives an "open" sound. Meanwhile, the left hand plays a multi-noted chord which includes one or more color tones along with the other chord notes, and the hands play simultaneously.

The damper pedal plays an important role here, too; depress the pedal on each strike, and let it up immediately before the next strike. That will make your right toe VERY busy -- but it is crucial for the total sound.
